Scott Schoeneweis' Wife Gabrielle Found Dead

Sad news out of Arizona. Gabrielle Schoeneweis, 39, wife of Diamondbacks reliever Scott Schoeneweis, 35, was found dead at the couple's home in Fountain Hills, Arizona on Wednesday afternoon.

Gabrielle Schoeneweis' body was found by one of the couple's four children, a 14-year-old girl. She told police she found her mother on the floor of the master bedroom. By the time officers arrived on the scene, she was unresponsive and was pronounced dead. There is no cause of death at this point. Scott Schoeneweis is on the way back from Miami where the Diamondbacks are playing.

Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall released the following statement upon hearing the news of the death of Gabrielle Schoeneweis:

“This is a tragedy for the Schoeneweis family who we naturally consider members of our family. We are here to support Scott in any way during this traumatic period in his life."

Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes, who was traveling with the with the team added:

"At this point, anything we can do to support Scott and his family, will be our focus. I have talked to Scott Boras, the agent, a few times. We're trying to get the facts the best we can. It's devastating news. Everyone is taking it very hard."

Gabrielle and Scott Schoeneweis had just celebrated their 10th anniversary in January. They had three children together, and she already had a daughter when they were married.
