Dying Boy Wishes to See Guatemalan Family One Last Time

Ask his doctors and nurses. Juan Gonzales is different than most being treated in a hospital. He is in Georgia's Redmond Regional Medical Center. And his story is a sad one.

Juan is dying, in his teen years. He cannot speak English, and his final wish is to see his parents and family again, before he dies. But he and they are separated by thousands of miles of distance and of course, red tape.

I adore them and love them so much. I would tell them how much I need them by my side during this difficult time.

Juan Gonzales' family is in Guatemala. Last year Juan joined the millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. He traveled to Georgia to get a job so he can send money to his parents.

Suddenly, last November, his heart began to fail. According to his doctor, his heart muscle is very weak, and with his status, doctors say he is unlikely to receive a transplant.

In and out of Redmond for 7 months, doctors and nurses have been struck by the young boy's personality and strength. As such, doctors and staff at the hospital have reached out to Georgia congressman Phil Gingrey, who released the following statement to CNN:

My office began facilitating communication between the Guatemalan embassy and the State Department who are working to get Juan's parents to their son's bedside as soon as possible. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as they face this difficult time.

I would ask those who live in Georgia to reach out to Gingrey, and perhaps even the State Department. Juan does not have much time.
