"Teminator Salvation" might not be just known as the first in the Terminator series to delve into the post-apocalypic world when Skynet has taken over. It will also be remember for being the movie in which its star, Christian Bale, went ballistic over a crew member's faux pas.
Back to Terminator Salvation, the movie, however. Finally we have reached the point where Skynet has executed most of mankind. But going into the future means remembering the past as well. Mankind's possible savior, John Connor (Bale), must remember to protect his father-to-be, Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin). After all, Reese has to (eventually) go back in time to protect Connor's mother, Sarah Connor.
Of course, the question is (and this is why I hate time travel stuff), does he really need to protect Reese? I mean, if Reese doesn't survive, then Connor wouldn't have been born, and we wouldn't be in the situation that humans find themselves in during the year 2018. It's all a paradoxical headache.
Let's just put this where it belongs: don't expect a lot of depth. It's a McG film after all. And if you've seen any of the trailers, you know there's plenty of action, and good looking action. Naturally, you might figure that the movie to center around John Connor and Kyle Reese, and you'd be right. But it also adds in the character of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), who probably has the worst-kept secret in the history of movies, but I won't reveal it here anyway.
At any rate, it's fun if you want mindless action. If you want more, go somewhere else. Of course, this movie has blockbuster written all over it. Reviews or no, it will probably be the #1 movie this week. Next week, after word-of-mouth, who knows?
Terminator Salvation is rated PG13, and is 115 minutes in length.
