Phil Spector Gets 19 Years to Life for Lana Clarkson's Death

Phil Spector, 68, who in April was found guilty of fatally shooting 40-year-old actress Lana Clarkson, has been sentenced. He will serve 19 years to life for the crime.

The sentence actually involves two crimes: Phil Spector was sentenced to 15 years to life for the second-degree murder of Lana Clarkson, and four years for personal use of a gun. The judge is also ordering restitution payments.

Phil Spector will not be eligible for parole until 2028, when he would be 88.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Alan Jackson said that Phil Spector's sentence sent a message that justice is blind in Los Angeles even when the defendant is a music icon.

"No matter your fame or your wealth or your supposed celebrity, you will stand trial and you will be held accountable.

Well, perhaps that only applies to music icons, or perhaps it only applies to those who commit murder or serious drug-related charges. We know it sure doesn't aplly to people like Paris Hilton, Kobe Bryant, or Lindsay Lohan.

The murder occurred in Phil Spector's mansion in 2003. His defense maintained Lana Clarkson committed suicide. However, prosecutors alleged Spector shot Clarkson in the mouth after she tried to leave his mansion.

Phil Spector is expected to appeal.
