Saturday night, the first couple are headed for New York City, and Broadway. The White House said that the President is making good on a campaign promise to his wife:
"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished."
I expect this to draw the ire of the GOP and other conservatives, who will say Obama is wasting time and fuel by traveling to New York City. They will, of course, omit the fact that George W. Bush became known as the "Vacation President" for overtaking Ronald Reagan as the president with the most days off.
Here's what I say: get over it.
The first couple will dine at Blue Hill, a West Village restaurant touted by New York magazine as a "seminal Greenmarket haven" that features food grown by chef and owner Dan Barber on his upstate farm. Follwing that, the Barack and Michelle Obama are headed to the Belasco Theater to see "Joe Turner's Come and Gone."
Before traveling to New York, the Obamas watched elder daughter Malia's soccer game for an hour on Saturday morning.
