Try as she might, she couldn't pull it off. Despite another boffo performance on Saturday night, Susan Boyle finished second to dance group Diversity, whose final performance just couldn't be beaten.

Diversity, a group of ten aged 13 to 25, take home a £100,000 prize and will perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance. Their final performance earned the following remark from judge Simon Cowell: "If I had to give marks tonight that would be the only performance I would give a ten to."

Oof. That should have set Susan Boyle back on her heels, and perhaps it did. On the other hand, fellow judge Piers Morgan said the following of Boyle's final performance, which admittedly was prior to Diversity: "That to me, has been the greatest performance I have seen in this competition. You should win it."

She didn't win it however, as Diversity's final performance was great, although to this writer, a dance troupe simply doesn't have the staying power of a great singer. While Diversity won the prize, here's hoping that Susan Boyle will get her well-deserved recording contract and world tour, as Piers Morgan earlier said she should, when both appeared on Larry King Live on CNN.

However, the win by Diversity, the 10-member troupe from Essex and London has to give "So You Think You Can Dance" or "America's Best Dance Crew" winners hope. After all, if Diversity can dance for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance, maybe the other shows can perform for President Barack Obama. Hey, they can dream, can't they? In any case Diversity's final performance at Britain's Got Talent 2009 Finale was breathtaking.
