In what could be bad news for ABC's telecasts of the NBA finals, the LA Lakers took the first game of the NBA finals over the Orlando Magic, crushing them 100 - 75.
The Lakers felt last year the NBA championship belonged to them, although it ended up being the property of the Boston Celtics, and they are on a mission this year. Kobe Bryant scored 40 points, along with 8 assists and 8 rebounds.
Orlando's center, Dwight Howard, managed only 6 shots and 12 points overall, although he did manage 15 rebounds. The fact that the Magic only had 4 players in double figures, with the top scorer being G Mickael Pietrus with 14 was an obvious sign of the Lakers' dominance.
If the Lakers manage to win, it would be their 15th title. This is only the second trip the Magic have made to the finals, and they have yet to win a game.
Kobe Bryant is attempting to win his first championship without Shaquille O'Neal. Some have theorized that without O'Neal, Bryant wouldn't have those championship rings.
Game 2 is on Sunday in Los Angeles, and the series moves to Orlando for Game 3 on Tuesday.
