Penguins Receive Fan Cheers, Well Deserved Parade

On Monday, the city of Pittsburgh celebrated its beloved Penguins with a noon parade. This was the first time that both the Penguins and the Steelers had a victory parade in the same year.

Hundreds of thousands of fans crowded the city's streets, to watch the Penguins "on parade." The Penguins came back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits in the series to beat the Detroit Red Wings. It was the franchise's third Stanley Cup, but the first since 1992.

The crowd at the Penguins Parade was estimated at 375,000, which bettered the 350,000 for the Steelers Super Bowl parade in February. Of course, being summer, many children no doubt helped increase the crowd size.

Despite the fact that the Penguins Parade wasn't even over yet, discussion has already erupted about a possible repeat. Ignoring the fact that it's just plain difficult for anyone to repeat, many key players are young and signed.

Sidney Crosby - four years left on his five-year contract.
Evgeni Malkin - his five-year extension begins next season.
Jordan Staal - four years left on his contract.
Chris Kunitz - three years left.
Marc-Andre Fleury - will be 30 when his contract expires.

Yes, it looks like the Penguins are set for years and possibly many more parades, but in reality, that's all on paper. There are so many intangibles. After all, last year's Stanley Cup champs, the Red Wings, were taken down by a team that fell behind 2-0.
