I have a terrible fear of heights. So does my wife. Thus, you couldn't pay me enough money to step out on these balconies that Sears Tower in Chicago has unveiled today: 103rd floor glass balconies.

The glass balconies have transparent walls, ceiling and floor and are suspended 1,353 feet in the air. The balconies extend four feet from the building's 103rd floor Skydeck.

The Sears Tower view is spectacular, but for many, you can't deny the fear. My guess would be children would be less inclined to the fear factor, and will laugh as their parents hesitate at the edge of 103rd floor balconies.

The Sears Tower is actually 110 stories tall, so you're missing out on 7 stories. Not, however, that those extra feet really make a difference when you are suspended that far above a hard landing.

If you're interested in trying the "Ledge" as it's called, it's not free. Entrance to the Skydeck is $14.95 for visitors 12 and older; $10.50 for children 3 to 11; Free for 2 and younger. Admission does include the Ledge.
