This is Adam LaRoche's sixth major league season; he is currently hitting .247 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs. In return, Pittsburgh will receive Double-A shortstop Argenis Diaz and Single-A right-hander Hunter Strickland.
Diaz is hitting .253 with 24 RBIs in 76 Double-A games this season.
Strickland is 5-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 18 appearances (12 starts) at the Class A level. He has 51 strikeouts and 13 walks in 83 1/3 innings.
The deal is expected to be officially announced shortly. While Adam LaRoche is mired in a slump that has dropped his average considerably, he has shown decent power, with 20 HRs over the past 4 seasons.
Adam LaRoche's best season was 2006 when he was with ATL and hit .285 with 32 homers, 90 RBI and a .915 OPS. Last year he had 25 homers and 85 RBI last season for the Pirates. He's also known to hit better in the second half of the season, but many consider him below-average defensively.
