Pro-Abstinence GOP Legislator Admits to Affair

Tennessee state senator Paul Stanley is, according to his website "a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he serves as a Sunday school teacher and board member of their day school." He's also anti-gay and a strong believer in abstinence.

This is what Joan Carr, director of community affairs for Planned Parenthood of the Greater Memphis Region said he told her in April:

"Sen. Paul Stanley is my state senator, and he made it clear at our meeting that he didn't care about my concerns about these issues that have a major impact in the Memphis area and that he would not ever support Planned Parenthood. He told us that he didn't believe young people should have sex before marriage anyway, that his faith and church are important to him, and he wants to promote abstinence."

Ah, yes, young people shouldn't have sex before marriage. Does that mean they have to be married to the person they are having sex with? I guess it doesn't matter, as in this case there was no marriage involved, period.

Paul Stanley has admitted to police via an affidavit that he had sex with a 22-year-old female intern (whew, he dodged one bullet; at least it was a woman, and neither a male nor a minor). He made this admission after the intern's boyfriend tried to blackmail him with video of the tryst.

Said boyfriend is now in custody and charged with extortion.

Ah, but it gets better. Paul Stanley (BTW, up for election in 2010) has more skeletons in his closet.

Judy Martin, Stanley's first wife, Judy Martin, filed for a restraining order against him in '94, charging that he had physically assaulted her three times. Stanley and Martin divorced the following year.

Finally, and quite possibly the most ironic news of all, Paul Stanley met his current wife, Kristi, soon afterwards. They were both working for Bill Frist's U.S. Senate office in Memphis. She was working as an intern.
