It's the 48th birthday of the 44th President of the United States. Barack Obama was born August 4, 1961 in (despite what birthers desperately want to believe) at the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, Hawaii. Happy Birthday Obama.
Unlike some who might take a day off on their birthday (let's not forget that George W. Bush now owns the title of "vacation president"), Barack Obama's birthday is a day full of work. Maybe we'll see a real party when he hits the big 5-0.
Speaking of the birther movement, the latest spawn of the crazies is an obviously forged Kenyan birth certificate, with more errors than you can shake a stick at, such as referring to the "Republic of Kenya" before it existed and an incorrect age for Obama's father.
Even without the fact that Hawaii has confirmed Obama's "certificate of live birth" as a valid birth certificate (more than once), and that there were two birth announcements in Hawaiian newspapers in 1961, how does anyone explain how he traveled the world on a U.S. passport prior to becoming a politician? You need a birth certificate for that.
Let's also not forget that the U.S. Supreme Court last year dismissed a legal challenge to his citizenship, and that a resolution in honor of the 50th anniversary of Hawaiian statehood ended up in passing the House of Representatives 378-0. That resolution included the line "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii ..." It seems even the GOP is pretty much over this birther thing (55 members did not vote, but 35 were Democrats, so they were likely in the restroom or something).
At any rate, we continue to look like fools to the rest of the world, but let's be honest: even if birthers somehow developed and went back to that hospital in Hawaii and saw the birth themselves they still wouldn't believe.
