Laura Ling and Euna Lee were met at the Burbank airport after being ferried back, along with Bill Clinton, in a private Boeing 737 owned by movie producer Steve Bing, a close friend of the former president.
The reunion of families and close friends was held in large airport hangar, which also owned by Steve Bing, at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA.
Lee was greated by her husband, actor Michael Saldate, and her her 4-year-old daughter, Hannah. Meanwhile, Laura Ling hugged her husband, British-born investment banker Iain Clayton, and other friends and family. Also present were her sister and former co-host of "The View," Lisa Ling, and former VP Al Gore. Current TV was founded by Gore.
While Euna Lee and Laura Ling had been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor in North Korea, none of that had happened yet. It was widely speculated that this was another round of saber-rattling by North Korea, which has been doing quite a bit of that of late, including restarting their nuclear enrichment facility and missile tests.
North Korea said there were "exhaustive talks" around many issues, but in reality the talks were only about the release of the two journalists. It will be interesting to see what Clinton has to say about the health of Kim Jong-Il, as he had a face-to-face meeting with him.
Best wishes to Euna Lee, husband Michael Parente, and Laura Ling, and husband Iain Clayton, and the rest of their friends and family. Watch a video of Steve Bing's 737 landing with all involved here.
