WRAL, a local North Carolina TV station, is reporting that sources have told them that former U.S. Senator and two-time presidential candidate John Edwards will admit that he is the father of his former mistress' 18-month-old daughter. No timeframe was given.

While John Edwards last August admitted to the affair with Rielle Hunter, he said the affair ended before her daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, was conceived. At one time, Andrew Young, a long-time Edwards aide, claimed to be the child's father, but he is believed to be writing a book in which he will assert Edwards is the father.

Rielle Hunter testified last week at a hearing before a grand jury which is investigating whether John Edwards illegally used campaign funds to keep her quiet. Andrew Young has also testified before the grand jury.

The timing of this may be simply a result of the report by the National Enquirer on Wednesday which stated that John Edwards had taken a paternity test. The result of that test, according to the Enquirer? What else, Edwards is the father of Frances.

The Enquirer also noted that the test was demanded by Rielle Hunter, who feared that she and her daughter would not get long-term financial support from John Edwards. It also indicated that despite his assertions, he was well aware that Frances was his daughter.
