In a leak of nationwide exposure, Al Michaels announced on NBC's Sunday Night Football telecast that New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi will announce his retirement on Monday. The Patriots have not confirmed the news but did confirm a press conference for 10:45 AM EDT.
Tedy Bruschi, entered the league under Bill Parcells as a third-round pick out of Arizona in 1996. He has played in five Super Bowls with the Patriots.
Four years ago, if he were most, Tedi Bruschi would have retired then. A stroke and the resulting partial paralysis seemed to have ended his career.
Tedy Bruschi isn't "most" players. He was backon the field just 8 months later after rehabbing. Last offseason, he toured the country as a motivational speaker.
Despite that, it was evident that the Patriots were ready to enter 2009 without Tedy Bruschi. They've been showing more 4-3 defense than before, and an inside LB, at the age of 36, is probably on his way out.
With that, Tedy Bruschi's had a great career. A one-time Pro Bowler, he finishes with 3 championship rings.
Instead he will retire knowing he'll go down as one of the all-time Patriots greats. Tedy Bruschi played his entire career as a Patriot. Over 13 seasons, Bruschi was part of nine playoff seasons, eight division championships, five conference titles and three Super Bowl crowns.
