Earlier this week, it was announced that Saturday Night Live was hiring two more women, Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad for the upcoming season. What wasn't known is that those two were replacements, not additions, as Michaela Watkins (pictured) and Casey Wilson were both canned.

SNL is entering its 35th, and the firing of Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson has to be termed a surprise. For many, it's been called a shocker.

Casey Watkins, perhaps not so much, as she appeared in the least number of sketches of any full-time cast member last year, with the exception of Darrell Hammond, that.

On the other hand, Michaela Watkins was in her first season. During that short time, she managed to create some breakout characters.

Definitely, was probably best known for her impression of Arianna Huffington, but she also played Ann Coulter, Barbara Walters, Glenn Close, Hoda Kotb, and Joan Rivers.

Michaela Watkins' character Angie Tempura was a regular on SNL's Weekend Update where she promoted her website, ahem, "Bitch Pleeze."

While not much has been dished on Casey Wilson's exit, Michaela Watkins spoke to EW, and while EW was rather blunt with a "what was Lorne thinking" question, Watkins was rather kind and said that Michaels told her he felt she should have her own show.

Eh? You think she's that talented so you can her? Once again, what the heck was Lorne Michaels thinking?
