Keillor had the stroke and was admitted to Saint Marys Hospital at Mayo Clinic, according to a spokesman for the hospital, which is in Rochester, Minnesota. David O'Neill, Garrison Keillor's spokesman, said the humorist will stay in the hospital until Friday for tests "and upon his release will resume his schedule as previously planned" once released.
Garrison Keillor was admitted on Monday. In a statement, he said:
"I am in the hands of smart and compassionate people and plan to get out on Friday and get right back to work. And that's the news from here."
Garrison Keillor reportedly felt "ill" prior to his hospitalization, but it's unclear what other symptoms he felt. "A Prairie Home Companion" launches its new season on Sept. 26th. It's true that in the case of minor strokes, sometimes the recover can be remarkable, so let's all hope that Garrison Keillor recovers quickly, and well.
Some 4 million people listen each week to Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" on nearly 600 public radio stations in the U.S. The show celebrated its 35th anniversary this July 4th.
