Florida came out stale, before upping its record to 2-0 vs. the Troy University Trojans. In their first 4 series, the Gators punted twice and fumbled once. You can't, however, hold down an offense with Tebow at the helm forever.
The Troy University Trojans (0-2) looked just as overmatched as Charleston Southern did last week. However, these are just tune-ups for the real season, which begins next week with Tennessee.
Tim Tebow was 15 of 24 passes for 237 yards and 4 TDs against the Troy University Trojans. He equaled his career high for a game with four TD passes. He also ran 13 times for 71 yards, and his 4-yard TD run was the 45th of his career, tying him with former Auburn star Cadillac Williams for third on the SEC’s all-time list, behind Kevin Faulk (LSU) and Hershel Walker (Georgia).
Florida’s defense was upset about last week's performance against Charleston Southern, where they gave up 323 yards. They took out the frustration against the Troy University Trojans, allowing only 139 yards on Saturday. The defensive unit also recovered two fumbles and had an interception.
The Gators have won four in a row against the Tennessee Volunteers. Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin’s recruiting accusations in February have given Florida players and coach Urban Meyer extra fuel for the upcoming game. They needed no such help against the Troy University Trojans.
If there was any cause for concern for Florida against Troy University, it was fumbles. The Gators committed six fumbles, and lost three to the Trojans. Aside from that, however, it seemed that the Gators are as ready as they can be for the Vols. Certainly the Gators' new huddle "banzai package" seemed to be clicking.
