It's not just strength, speed or skill, it's the intangibles, and Tate Forcier showed plenty of that by throwing a 5 yard TD pass to Greg Mathews with 11 seconds left, for the winning score.
Tate Forcier finished 23 of 33, with 240 pass yards, 70 rush yards and three touchdowns (2 pass, 1 rush). Forcier is the team's clear No. 1 going forward, after this game and the Wolverines' opening win against Western Michigan.
Is Michigan's football team back? It's hard to say at this point, but with Tate Forcier at the helm, the team, 2-0, has a good shot. Notre Dame, (1-1), came into the game ranked #18 in the country.
It had to feel good for Michigan's head football coach Rich Rodriguez. Last season the team lost a school-record nine games. Michigan didn't get any votes in The Associated Press preseason poll, but with Tate Forcier leading the way, they may have done enough to earn a ranking Sunday.
