Brett Favre Does His Job as Peterson Leads Vikes Over Browns

Brett Favre, oft-criticizied the last two seasons for being fickle in terms of retiring (or not), did just enough to help Minnesota to win against the Cleveland Browns. He did not, however, carry the Vikings. The game, rather, was carried on the shoulders of RB Adrian Peterson.

It's something that's been theorized by analysts. The Vikings have an excellent running game. They need Brett Favre to be just good enough, while Adrian Peterson does the meat of the work for the team.

That's what happened Sunday. Brett Favre showed flashes of the "old" Brett Favre. It's not necessary for him to throw 30 - 40 times a game for Minnesota to won.

Minnesota won 34-20, but the game wasn't that close. In the game, Brett Favre, who will turn 40 later this year, threw 14 / 21 for 110 yards and 1 TD. Meanwhile Adrian Peterson rushed 25 times for 180 yards and 3 TDs.

Meanwhile, for Cleveland, Brady Quinn threw 21/35 for 205 yards and an INT. He also threw a TD pass, and that enabled the Cleveland Browns offense ended a horrific streak. In garbage time, for the first time since the 4th quarter in week 10 of 2008, they scored a TD. 416 offensive plays between TDs, and Brady Quinn threw a TD pass to Robert Royal.

Can a soon-to-be 40-year-old Brett Favre stand up to the pounding later this year? Time will tell. And who do you think will be hot this weekend? Favre or or Federer at US Open Tennis 2009?
