DAL Starts Season with 34-21 Win Over TB

The Dallas Cowboys, perhaps reveling in the fact that they no longer have Jessica Simpson (QB Ton Romo's ex-girlfriend) as a distraction, opened up theh 2009 season with a 34-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

QB Tony Romo threw for 353 yards and three long touchdowns Sunday. Thus, in addition to starting the post-Jessica Simpson era, DAL started the post-Terrell Owens era with a 34-21 victory. It gave TB's new coach Raheem Morris a loss for his opening game.

The three long TD passes from Tony Romo were 42, 66, and 80 yards apiece to Miles Austin, Roy Williams, and Patrick Crayton, respectively. Marion Barber added 14 rushes for 79 yardsa and 1 TD.

For TB, QB Byron Leftwich was 25 of 41 for 276 yards, 1 TD and no INTs. RB Cadillac Williams had 13 rushes for 97 yards, and 1 TD, while Derrick Ward had 12 rushes for 62 yards and 1 TD.

Both DAL and TB are coming off 2008 seasons that ended with December collapses that cost them playoffs berths. Bucs lost four straight after a 9-3 start. That ended with the firing of head coach Jon Gruden, and his replacement with Morris. The Cowboys lost three of four down the stretch to finish 9-7.
