The Miracle at Mile High? It might have been, except this game was at Cincinnati. A miracle tipped pass to Brandon Stokely brought the Denver Broncos back from the brink and to a 12-7 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
caught a tipped pass and outran Cincinnati's shocked defenders for an 87-yard touchdown with 11 seconds left Sunday, giving the Broncos a 12-7 victory over a Bengals team that thought it had this one in the pocket.
Cedric Benson's 1-yard touchdown run put Cincinnati ahead 7-6 with 38 seconds left. At that point, QB Kyle Orton threw a desperate pass into a crowd at the sideline, directed, more or less, at Brandon Marshall.
CIN Cornerback Leon Hall batted the ball in the air. The bounce went right into the arms of the aforementioned Stokely. He was behind the defense with a clear path to a TD. In fact, he was so in the clear, he was able to run parallel to the goal line for a few steps to kill the clock before finally stepping into the end zone.
It was new head coach Josh McDaniels' regular season debut, and gave him his first win. Orton was favoring a dislocated index finger on his right hand, but despite that did just enough to have the Broncos ahead 6-0 lead heading into the closing minutes.
Then came Benson's TD, and the miracle pass. Kyle Orton finished 17/28, 243 yards, 1 TD, no INTs.
Meanwhile, on the CIN side, Carson Palmer was 21/33, with 247 yards and 2 INTs, no TDs.
