Week one of the NFL season isn't even over yet, and here we have our first high-profile injury. Brian Urlacher, Chicago Bears LB, is out for the season.
Brian Urlacher was injured in the Bears' 21-15 loss at Green Bay while making a tackle on Packers RB Ryan Grant. He played in the second quarter, but left on the Packers' first drive of the second half.
Brian Urlacher underwent surgery to repair a dislocated right wrist on Monday. Brian Urlacher is a 10-year veteran, and was expected to lead the Bears on the defensive side of things, which the offense adjusts to the addition of QB Jay Cutler.
Brian Urlacher said in a text message to the Chicago Tribune newspaper that his "season is over." That was confimed by team spokesman Jim Christman. He said, "Brian did have surgery this morning and he is out for the remainder of the season."
With Brian Urlacher out, the hopes of Bears fans has to be sagging right now. Urlacher had started 49 consecutive games and has missed a total of seven games, and all in 2004. To some, he's considered the image of the franchise.
