Florida St. Crushes No. 7 BYU

BYU vs. Florida State didn't end the way BYU wanted it to. Florida State crush the Cougars 54-28 Saturday, ending the Cougars’ 18-game home winning streak and probably any hopes BYU had of a BCS berth.

BYU vs. Florida State was not billed as a blowout, but Florida State's QB Christian Ponder threw for two TDs and ran for another. Florida State (2-1) avoided its first 1-2 start in 20 years. BYU is now 2-1 as well.

BYU’s Bowl Championship Series aspirations were fueled three weeks ago when the Cougars upset Oklahoma in the season opener. But BYU vs. Florida State showed the Cougars' hopes were in vain.

Ponder finished 21-for-26 for 195 yards; Ty Jones ran for 108 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, for BYU, QB Max Hall completed 20 of 31 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns for BYU, but he also threw three interceptions. Harvey Unga ran for 97 yards and a TD for the Cougars. BYU turned the ball over five times.

BYU had its chances, but turned the ball over crucial times. On their opening series, the Cougars fumbled after driving inside the Florida State 20. Later, a fumbled kickoff return allowed the Seminoles to add a field goal by Dustin Hopkins just prior to halftime for a 30-14 halftime lead.
