Former Super Bowl hero and New York Giants WR Plaxico Burress has been sentenced to two-years on a weapons charge. Burress was at the Latin Quarter nightclub in Manhattan last November when a gun tucked into his waistband slipped down his leg and fired, shooting him in the thigh.

While some might think that was enough punishment, the gun was not licensed in New York or in New Jersey, where Plaxico Burress lived. Additionally, his license to carry a concealed weapon, in Florida, mind you, had expired in May 2008.

Plaxico Burress had been indicted on two counts of weapons possession and one count of reckless endangerment. However, a plea bargain resulted in him pleading guilty to a single, lesser charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

Yes, Plaxico Burress will face prison, but let's be honest, OK? John Q. Public would not have gotten that deal.

With time off for good behavior, Plaxico Burress will probably serve 20 months. He could be released from prison as early as the spring of 2011. He will be monitored for an additional two years after he is released.

Plaxico Burress is 32. He would be 33 or 34 when released, and could resume his highly paid NFL career. He has already stated he hopes to do so. The Giants released Burress in April.
