Ichiro Suzuki, better known as just plain Ichiro, was ejected from a game for the first time in his U.S. major league baseball career. It's unclear if Ichiro was ever ejected when he played in Japan.
Ichiro, a star Seattle OF, was called out looking at strike three in the 5th inning. Ichiro used his bat to draw a line on the outer edge of the plate, indicating his belief that the pitch was outside the strike zone. Ichiro was immediately ejected.
Seattle is out of the playoffs, anyway, but it's possible Ichiro's ejection cost the team a chance at win number 81 of the season. The Mariners lost the game 5-4.
Ichiro went 0-3 before his ejection, dropping his average to .353. He's second to Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer in the AL batting race.
Despite trailing in the batting race, and earning his first ejection, Ichiro owns the major league record for most hits in a season. He also has over 200 hits for all 9 seasons, including this one, that he has played in the majors.
