Another set of upsets, some of them likely because of a little bit of overranking in Week 4, and the AP Poll for Week 5 shows quite a few differences in the NCAA football rankings. The top three, however, remain the same.
#1 Florida, #2 Texas and #3 Alabama held onto their places at the top of the AP poll, week 5 released Sunday. Showing the number of upsets and changes taking place, 15 teams moved up or down at least three spots.
Florida (4-0) had no problem beating Kentucky, to maintain its top ranking in the AP poll, week 5. This was despite all the flu-ridden players on its team, but it lost QB Tim Tebow to a concussion late in the third quarter of its 41-7 victory. The good news for Florida is that they are off this week before playing at LSU on Oct. 10.
One of the teams taking a big hit in the AP Poll for Week 5 is the Cal (UC Berkeley) Bears. They came into the weekend ranked number 6 overall, and were blasted by the unranked Oregon Ducks, 42-3. The Bears dropped to 24 because of the embarrassing loss. Oregon moved into the rankings to 16.
The top 3 ranked teams in the AP poll, week 5, Florida, Texas, and Alabama are the only top-10 teams from the preseason rankings that are undefeated. So far this season, a team ranked in the top 10 has lost to an unranked team six times.
