The question is still open for Carolina QB Jake Delhomme. Is he the right man for the job? He didn't answer that question too well in Monday night's Panthers vs. Cowboys matchup.
The final score in the Panthers vs. Cowboys game was 21 - 7, but it was far closer than that. In fact, DAL trailed at halftime 7 - 0, but it was Delhomme and the Panthers who "helped" them to a win.
At the end of Q3, the Panthers vs. Cowboys score read 10 - 7 DAL. WIth 12 minutes left, it was 13 - 7, DAL. Starting from their own 10, with more than 5 minutes left, CAR had plenty of time to make it to the endzone. That's when things went horribly wrong.
On what was supposed to be a slant, the Cowboys intercepted and Terence Newman returned the interception 27 yards for a lead-stretching TD. The Panthers vs. Cowboys scoreboard now read 21 - 7, after a 2 pt conversion.
To cap things off, on their next drive, CAR fumbled the ball, and that was it. The total for CAR's offense in the second half was six possessions, 4 punts, 1 INT, and 1 fumble lost. After going 12-4 and winning their division, CAR is 0-3 and headed into a bye week. Jake Delhomme has seven interceptions, seven sacks and two fumbles.
While CAR coach John Fox tried to remain upbeat, that's a big hole to dig themselves out of. Meanwhile, DAL had to be happy. It wasn't just a win, Panthers vs. Cowboys produced THE win, meaning the first win in their new stadium. DAL is now 2-1.
