DJ AM's Death Ruled Accidental

The death of DJ AM, 36, also known as Adam Goldstein, has been ruled an accidental overdose. The medical examiner’s toxicology report said that DJ AM had ingested OxyContin, Vicodin, Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Benadryl and Levamisole.

DJ AM was found dead nearly a year after escaping, along with Travis Barker, from a South Carolina plane crash that killed four others. It was reported that the pain from his injuries caused him to become addicted to drugs, which he had previously kicked.

What's still more interesting about the story is that levamisole is a veterinary anti-parasitic drug. However, according to the LA Times, it has been showing up in cocaine and has cause 20 cases of agranulocytosis, a life-threatening disease that causes a drop in the number of white blood cells.

Levamisole is used in cattle, sheep and swine to prevent parasites. It is not approved for human use.

Despite that, however, and for unknown reasons, there has been a rise in the number of cases of levamisole being found in cocaine. According to the LAT, samples of cocaine analyzed in July showed that more than 70% contained levamisole.

Some believe that levamisole is being used to cut cocaine. DJ AM was known as a celebrity DJ, and he was a celebrity in his personal life as well: he dated both actress-singer Mandy Moore and reality TV star Nicole Richie.
