The Peru earthquake paled in magnitude to the two in the Pacific, but was still large, with magnitude 5.9. It struck in southeastern Peru on Wednesday, close to Bolivia's capital of La Paz, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The Peru earthquake was fairly deep at 155 miles. It occurred about 60 miles east of the Peruvian city of Juliaca and 100 miles northwest of La Paz. The temblor was not felt in La Paz, nor in Peru's capital of Lima.
The US Geological Survey initially reported the Peru earthquake to be of 6.3 magnitude quake but later downgraded it. There was no immediate report of damage or casualties.
While the Peru earthquake appears to have left none dead, the Samoan and Indonesian quakes are a different matter. Many are digging out from those quakes, and many are dead and injured.
