Brett Favre Takes a Grudge Into the Green Bay Game

Since Brett Favre "left" the Green Bay Packers, he's been holding a grudge. While reminiscent of how Joe Montana left the 49ers, it wasn't so apparent that Aaron Rodgers was ready to take over, as it was with Steve Young and the 49ers. Thus, Favre can't wait to take the field against the Packers tomorrow night, in Minnesota, and again Nov. 1st at Lambeau field.

Fresh off a miracle win against the aforementioned San Francisco 49ers, pulling it out with seconds left, Brett Favre is approaching the Packers game with determination. Will he let his emotions overcome him?

We've seen Brett Favre become "overjuiced" in some games. If he lets the adrenaline flow too much, Favre, despite all his experience and still great talent, has a tendency to overthrow receivers. It's happened before, and it could happen again.

The key to the game will be if Favre remembers to rely enough on RB Adrian Peterson. Despite the fact that the 49ers managed to bottle up Peterson last week, he still managed to gain 85 years on 19 carries, for a clip of 4.5 yards per carry.

There is a change to all of this, however. Adrian Peterson has done well against GB so far in his short career. In the four games he's faced the Packers, he's topped 100 yards three times, averaging a whopping 6.7 yards per carry in those three games. Last year at the Metrodome he we for 192 yards on 30 carries, including the game-winning 29-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. However, this game, Peterson will face Dom Capers' 3-4 defense for the first time. This might mean more pressure for Favre to perform.

Brett Favre will welcome it. Favre's plan was very transparent when he managed to gain his release from the New York Jets in May. He wanted to go to a team that would play the Packers twice, and that was Minnesota. One NFL general manager told the NY Daily News in May nothing less than that:

"Favre can't stand Green Bay. He wants to play Green Bay and say, "I told you so." His bitterness is creating this. I think he's calling Minnesota. I think Minnesota is talking about this as we speak. You haven't heard the end of Favre. No way. He is bionic. As long as somebody will let him in, he will play."

Of course, it wasn't easy. Brett Favre did sign with the Vikings, but Aug. 18th, rather late, and seemingly repeating last year's NYJ drama. Still, he has shown he's ready for anything, with last week's miracle.

Here's how Brett Favre progressed from NYJ retirement to this challenge against GB, as we covered it:
