49ers Shut Out the Rams, 35-0

There was a decided difference between the first and the second halves of the 49ers - Rams game on Sunday. While the 49ers went into half-time with a 7-0 lead, they'd also managed to let the Rams stay in the game, when they shouldn't have.

In fact, the 49ers only points in the first half were due to a muffed punt by the Rams. To be precise, a St. Louis player kicked the punt accidentally into the end zone. Scott McKillup of the 49ers fell on the ball in the end zone for a TD.

That was hardly something you'd want to cheer about as the only score you made in the first half, if you were the 49ers. That all changed in the second half.

The 49ers began to open things up, and with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, QB Shaun Hill threw a 13 yard TD pass to TE Vernon Davis. This was Davis' 3rd TD catch in the last two weeks.

Then, still in the 3rd quarter, a pass from St. Louis QB Kyle Boller was intercepted by 49ers all-pro LB Patrick Willis and run in 23 yards for a TD.

Next, in the 4th quarter, 49ers QB Shaun Hill threw a dying quail (it was a wobbly pass) 24 yards for another TD, this one to WR Josh Morgan. A pretty sad looking pass, but a perfect result.

Finally, the capper was a fumble recovery by Ray McDonald, who took it in 11 yards for the final 49er TD. Final score, 35-0.

Many said the 49ers could show their makeup today, by blitzing the Rams, who lost their 14th straight. The jury is still out for the 49ers, as they let the Rams stay in the game far too long.

Next week, ATL. SF is now 3-1, and the Rams are 0-4.
