One in Custody in University of South Florida Lockdown

Two suspects were arrested after threats resulted in a lockdown of the University of South Florida campus. The campus lockdown has since been lifted, but one of the two suspects is still in custody in the USF gunman case.

The alerts began in early afternoon, with the USF website noting a gunman was suspected on campus. The alert on the University of South Florida website said that people should stay inside and lock their doors.

Shortly before, authorities at the University of South Florida had in custody a who had apparently stood up on a campus bus and said he was the person investigators were looking. He added that he had a bomb. He later said it was a hoax.

Nevertheless, authorities took the backpack he had and detonated it, as a precautionary measure. This first suspect was described as an African American male in a green and yellow striped shirt.

Meanwhile, the USF gunman alert continued, as campus police sent another alert to University of South Florida students saying another suspect was being looked for. He was described as a white male carrying a black puppy and a large hunting knife, wearing a black tank top and a cowboy hat. Authorities later captured him, but subsequently released the suspect.

While police issued an all-clear at 4:20 PM, they advised students and others to avoid police activity on Holly Drive near parking services on the University of South Florida campus.
