The relationship between the victim and the assailant remains unclear. According to police, there was some sort of argument between the two just prior to the attack.
UCLA police responded to a call of stabbing in a lab room in Young Hall at 12:21 PM PDT. The victim was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Neither her condition nor identity has been released.
At the same time, police quickly were able to track down and apprehend a suspect in the UCLA stabbing case. He has been arrested, though similarly, his identity has been withheld.
While campus police were clear in stating this was an unusual event, there is some evidence to the contrary. In an unrelated event last month an off-campus fraternity party erupted into a fight, which nearly resulted in another UCLA stabbing.
On Monday, two of the three UCLA students from arrested in connection with the near off-campus fraternity party stabbing were freed after prosecutors declined to file charges. Five other men remained behind bars in connection with the fight.
While these two UCLA stabbing incidents are unrelated, it is certainly a worrisome trend. We will update our readers when any new information on the victim or assailant in today's crime is revealed.
