NFL player, former star QB, and former convicted dog fighter Michael Vick will star in his own show, reports say. It will be an eight-part television series scheduled to debut on BET in 2010.
The show will follow the embattled Philadelphia Eagles QB as he tries to restore his image after serving 18 months in prison for his role in a dog fight ring. The show is tentatively titled "The Michael Vick Project."
The show was officially announced by BET in a statement on Friday. "Michael Vick's story is about second chances, and we are excited to have the opportunity to tell his complete story," BET president Loretha Jones said in a statement.
Many did not want Michael Vick to get a second chance. After all, his actions were horrific, and now, back in the NFL, he has a chance to make millions of dollars again, and live a lifestyle which would not be associated with someone whose deeds tortured and ended the lives of many dogs, who had no second, or even first chance at life.
Michael Vick has continued to state that he realizes the mistake he has made. At the same time, organizations such as PETA believe he still "does not get it."
Signed as a backup QB by the Eagles when many other teams shied away from him, Michael Vick has had a chance to play, mostly because the team's starting QB was injured. His contract is $1.6 million deal, with a team option for next year worth $5.2 million.
Michael Vick has completed 11 of 15 passes for 45 yards with one interception, and run eight times for 36 yards and a score.
