South Korea reached out to its northern neighbor on Monday. At the same time, Yonhap news agency quoted an unidentified South Korean government official as saying the North test-fired two short-range missiles on Monday morning and three others on Monday afternoon from mobile launchers.
The missiles were all of the same type, reportedly surface-to-surface KN-02 rockets with a range of up to 75 miles. North Korea last test-fired missiles in early July. At that time the country conducted a series of seven ballistic missile tests.
In a more worrisome note, Yonhap news agency added that North Korea has issued a no-sail warning in areas off the country's east and west coasts for the dates of Oct. 10 - 20. This appears to be an indication of more missile tests.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Belfast Monday speaking to Northern Irish business leaders. She stated that American efforts to negotiate with North Korea will continue despite the new tests.
"Our goal remains the same. Our consultations with our partners and our allies continues unabated. It is unaffected by the behavior of North Korea."
