Wrestling's, and Cyndi Lauper's, Captain Lou ALbano Dies

Captain Lou Albano, known as a wrestler and as a wrestling manager, but also famous for a Cyndi Lauper video, has died. He was 76.

Captain Lou Albano died after a series of health complications in recent years. He passed away at 3:30 AM, surrounded by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine, and his family.

Captain Lou Albano began wrestling in 1953. He rose to fame, mostly as a manager, with the then-World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He "performed" for WWE from 1983 to 1996. Albano began his career in the 1960’s as one half of “The Sicilians” tag team with his partner, Tony Altimore.

He appeared in the first Wrestlemania at Madison Square Garden in 1986. Albano was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame in 1996.

In the 1980s, you may recall his appearance as Cyndi Lauper's father in the video "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Later he also served as her manager.

A private wake will be held at Balsamo-Cordovano Funeral Home in Carmel from 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM Friday. A funeral Mass will take place at 11 AM Saturday at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel.
