The somewhat peaceful night of Andy Warhol reading turned into a PR nightmare. The Meghan McCain Twitter post, once it went up started to draw many hateful and rude remarks.
They were also, apparently, hurtful. It became so bad that a later Meghan McCain Twitter post stated that McCain was thinking of deleting her Twitter account. Unlike Miley Cyrus, who recently deleted hers, McCain thought better of it.
Here's the Meghan McCain post where she seriously thought of deleting her account (spread across a series of posts):
so I took a fun picture not thinking anything about what I was wearing but apparently anything other than a pantsuit I am a sl*t, this is why I have been considering deleting my twitter account, what once was fun now just seems like a vessel for harassment
I am going to take some more time to think about it but seriously I was just trying to be funny with the book and that I'm a dork staying in
when I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweat pants, I had no idea this makes me a "slut", I can't even tell you how hurt I am
ok I am getting the f** off twitter, promise not to delete my account until I sleep on it, thank you for the nice words supporters
Thing is, Meghan McCain has become the poster child for how not to be a member of the GOP. Quite simply, she is far too centrist for many. In the past, she has been the target of conservative pundits such as Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter. Some of that rhetoric has been hurtful as well, such as when Laura Ingraham called McCain fat.
At any rate, Meghan McCain's Twitter post sent the Internet all a-twitter. Finally, she apologized, saying:
do want to apologize to anyone that was offended by my twitpic, I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry 2 those that are offended.
Honestly, many encouraging statements were made to Meghan McCain about her Twitter post as well, telling her she was beautiful and did not need to apologize for anything. Certainly, McCain did not deserve the harsh words delivered to her.
