ALCS Game 6 Rained Out

Cross your fingers for Sunday, because the American League Championship Series (ALCS) Game 6 has been postponed. As expected, the game at Yankee Stadium was rained out.

ALCS Game 6 was rescheduled for 8:20 PM EDT Sunday at Yankee Stadium. New York leads the best-of-seven series 3-2 and needs one victory to clinch its 40th pennant. If it does it, NY will reach the World Series for the first time since 2003. Game 7, if necessary, will be Monday in New York at 7:57 PM.

New York City had been experiencing off and on rain since Friday night. There was a steady drizzle all day Saturday, so Major League Baseball called ALCS Game 6 nearly 2 hours before the scheduled first pitch of 7:57 PM.

The postponement of ALCS Game 6 could work to the Angels' advantage, if they can extend the series to seven games. With an extra day of rest, No. 1 starter John Lackey, who took a shutout into the seventh inning in Game 5, could be available to pitch in game 7 on three days’ rest.

The Angels had pegged Joe Saunders to start ALCS Game 6 against fellow NY left-hander Andy Pettitte. The Yankees will stay with Pettitte on Sunday night rather than switch to their ace CC Sabathia.

Sabathia is 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in three playoff outings this year. He would start Game 7 instead if needed. He pitched eight innings on three days’ rest in a 10-1 victory in Game 4 on Tuesday.
