On both the U.S. and U.K. Google home pages, the celebration of the Sesame Street Anniversary / Big Bird Birthday and the Wallace & Gromit Anniversary are by Google's typical Doodle change. When there's a celebration, an event, or something Google wants to highlight (sometimes in a mysterious way), Google will change its home page Doodle to match.
Frequently, the Doodle is the same worldwide. In this case, with the Sesame Street Anniversary and Wallace & Gromit Anniversary so close in time, they have differentiated between the U.S. and U.K. sites.
Wallace & Gromit is a Claymation series. That is to say, it is a stop-motion clay animation series. Past such series include Gumby and Davey and Goliath.
Wallace is described as "an absent-minded inventor from Wigan, Lancashire." Gromit is his dog. While very popular in the U.K., the series has also made it overseas, and become known worldwide (which is why not giving it a day unto itself at Google instead of splitting countries with Sesame Street's Anniversary is somewhat strange).
Wallace & Gromit have appeared in both shorts and comics. They have also been in their own feature-length film, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005).
