Later, reports surfaced that the trade hasn't happened. This, of course, has to be grating on Mark Teahen's nerves.
The Mark Teahen trade was reported first by Bill Madden in the New York Daily News. Teahen would replace Jermaine Dye, expected to leave the White Sox as a free agent, in right field, the report speculated. However, as of 10 AM CST Thursday, Teahen hadn't heard anything from the Royals.
At the same time, Royals general manager Dayton Moore told MLB.com in the morning on Thursday (through the team's public relations department) that there was "nothing to report right now." Which means, officially, there's no Mark Teahen trade.
Mark Teahen, 28, is a multi-position player for the Royals. He played first base, second base and third base in addition to right field in 2009, though most of the prior two seasons he played mostly RF. He hit .271 this year with 12 homers and 51 RBIs in 144 games.
Meanwhile, Chris Getz was the White Sox's regular second baseman. He hit .261 with two homers and 31 RBIs in 107 games, and stole stole 25 bases in 27 attempts.
The final piece of the rumored Mark Teahen trade would be Josh Fields, who hit .222 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 79 games. This year, he lost the starting 3B job to rookie Gordon Beckham.
Whether or not Mark Teahen is traded, he's used to the angst. Last offseason he was the subject of trade rumors as well. Teahen made $3.575 million this year and is eligible for arbitration.
