Fort Hood Area Hospitals Ask For Blood Donations

As details on the tragedy at Fort Hood continue to come in, the hospitals in the area of Fort Hood, TX, are asking for blood donations. Current reports are that 11 are dead, and 31 wounded.

The incident began at 1:30 CST in Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Center, where troops are readied for deployment. Reportedly one soldier walked into the center, and using two handguns, shot multiple other soldiers until he himself was killed.

The Soldier Readiness Center, as described on news reports, is 117,000 sq. ft. in size. Two other soldiers were later captured. It is unclear if they were shooters as well.

Meanwhile, hospital in the areas are taking multiple casualties into their emergency rooms. Scott & White Memorial Hospital has reported that they have and are still receiving several gunshot victims from Fort Hood. While no specific information was available, the hospital did report that the victims were all adult. Fort Hood houses as many as 4,929 active-duty officers and 45,414 enlisted. There are also nearly 9,000 civilian employees, and about 17,000 family members live on the post.

At the same time, the hospital is requesting blood donations. On their site, Scott & White cites the Fort Hood tragedy and is requesting blood from donors for all different blood types.
