Zenyatta thus kept her undefeated record intact at 14 for 14. Horse of the Year discussion now includes her along with superstar 3-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra, who won the Preakness and went 8 for 8 this year. However, Rachel Alexandra skipped the Breeders' Cup 2009 due to her owner Jess Jackson's dislike of synthetic surfaces.
In the Breeders' Cup Classic, the Breeders' Cup 2009 results showed Zenyatta using her usual ending kick to push past Gio Ponti. She won by one length over Gio Ponti, with Twice Over another 1 1/4 lengths back in third, and another three-quarters of a length to Summer Bird in fourth.
The Breeders' Cup 2009 results showed Zenyatta paying 7.60 to win, 5.60 to place, and 3.80 to show. She was the first female to win the Classic in the 26-year history of the Breeders' Cup Classic race.
