Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, 61, who fell off a stage during a Sturgis, S.D., concert, has quit the band, says guitarist Joe Perry. Tyler broke his shoulder during the incident.
In an interview with The Las Vegas Sun Joe Perry said that Steven Tyler quit Aerosmith after a concert in Abu Dhabi. “Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don’t know any more than you do about it.”
However, Perry said it was difficult to determine if in fact Steven Tyler had quit Aerosmith, or not. After all, Tyler never returns Perry's calls.
Perry referenced a series of online comments in a recent Tyler interview with British magazine Classic Rock. In that interview, Tyler addressed his previously announced solo project. “I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself -- Brand Tyler.”
It's hardly a concrete statement that Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith, but the bad wasn't exactly happy about part of their tour being cancelled after Tyler's fall. Facts are still sketchy. However, Fox News reported that the other members of Aerosmith Perry, guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton, and drummer Joey Kramer plan to meet to discuss next steps.
Is replacing Steven Tyler in the best interest of the band? Has Steven Tyler quit Aerosmith? Do we still care? Time will tell, but perhaps returning calls would clear things up.
