Missing Paratrooper's Body Found in Afghan River

Military officials said Wednesday that body of Benjamin Sherman, 21, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, has been found in a river. Sherman is a paratrooper who went missing since last week in Afghanistan

Sherman, along with another soldier, have been missing since Nov. 4th. That day, Sherman into the Morghab River, near Afghanistan's border with Turkmenistan, after he saw the other soldier struggling in the water. Sherman was on his second tour of duty overseas.

Sherman's body was found by a military diver. Reports are that officials are continuing their search for the second paratrooper.

Sherman, as well as the other missing paratrooper, were members of the Fourth Brigade Combat Team of the 82d Airborne Division. The Army spent a week searching for the two soldiers.

Last week, the Taliban claimed last week that it had recovered the bodies. This increased the intensity of Army's search. However, the Taliban later released a statement saying they had, if fact, not recovered the bodies.

While military officials did not confirm the details of the recovery Sherman's body, his family told local media that his body had been found, and confirmed his death. Ben Sherman behind a wife, Patricia, who is expecting their first child in just a few months. The news comes, ironically, on Veterans Day.
