An unnamed CNN executive confirmed to the NYT that Dobbs will resign plans on his 7 PM EST program. His resignation will be effective immediately. This show will be his last on CNN. His contract had not been set to expire until the end of 2011.
Lou Dobbs has been a fixture at CNN since its beginnings. He reportedly informed staff members of his plans Wednesday afternoon.
The issues with Dobbs over the past months stem from, not just his is controversial views on immigration, but also for his attention to the "Obama birther movement," in which he has shown some degree of "belief" in the ludicrous claims that President Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii.
In October, the New York Times reported that Lou Dobbs had dinner with Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes; that meeting took place in September. There have been rumors, including some from so-called "people with knowledge of the meeting" that Dobbs could be heading for the Fox Business Network.
Last month the New Jersey State Police were called to Dobbs rural home to investigate a report of gunfire. A bullet reportedly struck the side of CNN host Dobbs' home.
While the bullet didn't penetrate the building, and fell to the ground, Dobbs' wife, Debi Lee Segura, was standing outside the house, along with her driver on Oct 5th when the incident occurred. No one was hurt. Dobbs suggested that his family had targeted because of his views on illegal immigration and border security.
