Among the tallest dog breeds are Irish Wolfhounds and Great Danes. On Thursday, however, the Guiness Book of World Records officially named Titan the Great Dane the World's Tallest Dog. He received the honor at an official ceremony.
Given the way records to do with physical characteristics work, it's unknown how long Titan the Great Dane will continue to be the World's Tallest Dog. Much like records regarding age, these sorts of records pass along as the recipients pass away, as well.
Such is the case for this record. In this case, 4-year-old Titan the Great Dane has become the new titleholder as Gibson, a 7-year-old harlequin Great Dane from Grass Valley, died earlier this year after battling bone cancer.
Titan the Great Dane, although only 4, is ailing as well. Reportedly he is blind, deaf, epileptic and undergoes both chiropractic and acupuncture treatments every three weeks.
His owner, Diana Taylor, says Titan stands 42.25 inches from floor to shoulder and weighs 190 pounds. Unlike the image of Marmaduke, the comic strip Great Dane, Titan doesn't stand on his hind legs; it isn't good for him.
While purebred dogs are the easiest to categorize in terms of temperament and personality, they are also more vulnerable to hereditary diseases due to inbreeding. As with people, mutts are usually more healthy.
Here is who the strongest dog is in the world.
