Polaroid, former makers of those tried-and-true instant film cameras, has been on hard times. The firm is still trying to move into the 21st (or even 20th) century with digital devices, and such is the Polaroid V130 Camcorder.
The market in this point and shoot camcorder segment is pretty much owned by the Flip Video brand, now owned by Cisco. That doesn't mean, however, that you should not look at any other brands, and this Polaroid V130 Camcorder is priced lower than the Flip, today, but pricing will soon be even lower.
Target is doing early, early ebony (all right, Black Friday) sales ads, and today the news is that it has some fantastic deals planned. The Polaroid V130 Camcorder, on Black Friday, will be $39. Add in tax and its still way lower priced than Amazon.com's current $59 (+ ship).
The Polaroid V130 Camcorder has a built-in swing out arm for USB connectivity (much like the Flip Video camcorders). It has 8x digital zoom, and 64MB of storage built in. Note that the Flip Video has 8GB of storage for its latest camcorders, but the Polaroid has extra media card support for Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo as well.
Don't expect HD support at this price. The Polaroid V130 camcorder has only VGA resolution. However, the Flip Video camcorders come in both standard and HD models, so you should make the comparison there. You'll see the Polaroid is still cheaper.
The Polaroid V130 camcorder package includes the following software: ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme, ArcSoft VideoImpression, ArcSoft MediaImpression. It is both Windows and Mac compatible, though it is unclear if all the software will run on both platforms.
