Dell Mini 3 Smartphone Heading For China, Brazil First

Dell's first Android smartphone, the Dell Mini 3, was officially announced by the company on Friday. Surprisingly, the company added that the device will first appear in China (China Mobile or CMCC) and Brazil (Claro).

Dell has sold PDAs before, but never smartphones, and its been out of the PDA business for some time. The Dell Mini 3 is not just its first foray into smartphones, it's also notable that they are using Google's Android rather than Windows Mobile.

The company did not add any further specifications on the Dell Mini 3. It's unknown, therefore, if the device will run Android 2.0 as the Droid does, or 1.5.

Dell did confirm that the Dell Mini 3 has a 3.5-inch high-definition touch screen. The Mini 3 sold in China won't have Wi-Fi at the start, just as the first official iPhones did not. However, Dell said that feature would come later.

The company also provide exact delivery dates for the device. Estimates are late November for China Mobile and year's end for Claro. It also did not specify when the Dell Mini 3 would arrive in the U.S. or other markets.

It should, however, escape no one's notice that the promotional image that Dell is using for the Dell Mini 3 is very similar to prior iPhone images. They are using a hand holding a device with a screen full of app icons, as shown above.
