Johnny Depp People's Sexiest Man Alive 2009

Johnny Depp has joined an elite group. For just the third time ever, there is a two-time winner of People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” award.

Additionally, Depp is the first to win People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" award twice in the same decade. The other two-time winners of the award are Brad Pitt (1995 and 2000) and George Clooney (1997 and 2006). Depp last won the award in 2003.

Why pick a 46-year-old man for the People "Sexiest Man Alive" award 2009 over some hotter, younger stars? According to People's issue (available on newsstands), it's a simple reason: Johnny Depp's longevity at the top.

Of course, 2009 has been pretty quiet for Depp, which is unusual for a People Magazine "Sexiest Man Alive" pick, but according to the
U.K.'s Daily Mail, that's about to change. Perhaps People knew of this already.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Depp has just signed on to film another “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. This would be the fourth film, “On Stranger Tides,” and he would get a huge whopping $35 million paycheck.

Speaking of longevity, Johnny Depp first hit the scene in that old, old copy show, "21 Jump Street." In that show, 20-ish cops disguised themselfves as teens to infiltrate high schools to investigate crime.

Since then, he's become a mega-superstar in films, with roles in films such as "Edward Scissorhands," the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, and as Willy Wonka in the film "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

Will any of these two-time winners be able to make it a threesome, with a third win? They still have plenty of time, but so does last year's one-time winner of People's Sexiest Man Alive award: Hugh Jackman.
